Center for Biological Diversity v. Salazar, Civ. No. 08-4595 (N.D. Cal.)
Case Summary:
On behalf of the Center for Biological Diversity, we challenged the Fish and Wildlife Service's critical habitat designation for the endangered Sonoma County distinct population segment of the California Tiger Salamander on the grounds that the critical habitat designation – which excluded the entire range of the salamander's habitat – was politically motivated and contrary to the recovery goals of the ESA. This case was settled with the Service's agreement to make a new critical habitat designation by July 2011.
Plaintiff: Center for Biological Diversity
Court: United States District Court for the Northern District of California
